If you are accepted into the program, you will receive an offer letter from the Graduate School of NMSU offering you tentative admission to NMSU without an assistantship.

If you are selected for assistantship, you will receive a second offer letter from the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

All graduate program applicants are automatically reviewed by the Graduate Committee for an assistantship after applying to our graduate program.
The application fee is automatically waived by the graduate school for one time only on your first application. Any other applications to the graduate program will require you to pay the fee and there are no exceptions.

Fees:
$40 for Domestic Students
$50 for International Students
Spring Deadlines
• October 1st

Fall Deadlines
• June 1st

Mathematical Sciences also accepts applications year-round for future semesters.
We do not require them, and you should be able to submit your application without uploading them.

If the application portal does not allow it, please contact the Graduate School and they will waive it.
The department cannot make that determination, but in the past, the Graduate Committee has made requests that an applicant reapply if they see them as a strong applicant fit for the program not applied for.

Of course if you initially get accepted to our PhD program, and you do not feel as if you are as strong as you would like to be while you are here in that program, you can always swap to the master’s program later on if the Department Head and your advisor both agree it is for the best.
Unfortunately, as the Graduate School has a specific procedure that they go about notifying applicants of a decision, we cannot provide any updates other than all applications will be processed.

You will have to keep an eye on your email you applied with as you will always be contacted if you are accepted or denied into the program.
Since our graduate committee have made offers up until the start of the semester an applicant has applied for, there is not a pinpoint deadline. You will hear from NMSU in some form before a semester starts with our decision.
Please contact the graduate school for questions and concerns related to the troubleshooting and/or editing of applications within the application portal.
