Are you an undergraduate looking for a summer research opportunity?
Each summer, we have an internally funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) intended for our math majors. Each year a different topic is chosen and a group is led by one of our postdocs and a graduate student in the area. In the later fall the theme for the coming summer is announced, and applications are sought from students wishing to take part. Generally there are about 3 undergraduates, a graduate student, and the postdoc working together for 4-5 weeks on a specific collection of research problems. The students will certainly gain experience in research and an appreciation for what research in math looks like. It is possible that the research will lead to students being involved in presentations, or even publications (as was the case of our first REU in Summer 2024).
There is funding to help support the undergraduates, but it is assumed that they have their own living arrangements in the local area.
